Western New York Tributary...
I begrudgingly dragged myself out of bed at around 2am this morning, and made the long three hour drive to one of my favourite rivers ~ the morning was cold, gray and damp ~ prototypical conditions for Steelhead fishing. I spent the better part of the morning fishing a few runs in the lower end of the river, and I only saw a handful of small 3 to 4lb fish hooked. That said, the highlight of the day was spending time fishing with a friend who is both a skilled angler and excellent rod builder ~ he gave me some pointed advice on shot patterning and reading water; interestingly enough, I find myself refining aspects of my drift this many years on, thankfully. The most notable fish of the day was a spectacularly coloured Brown Trout ~ unfortunately, the accompanying image fails to capture the vivid mid-tones of the fish, perhaps as a result of the cement coloured water, or more likely due to a badly photographed subject. Expect a fully developed website for Dan Colville Custom Rods in the Summer of 2006. An example of his work can be seen in the captioned image shown above.
