Let there be Spey...

In the late summer of last year, I sold my 10ft, 8 weight Scott SAS series fly rod. Though the quality of the blank and fit & finish of the rod were tier one, I found it to be too heavy for a single handed rod. As a consequence, I decided to sell it after having been given an offer that I could not refuse. Fast forward to yesterday, and I located a 13ft, 8wt Scott SAS 1308 Spey Rod ~ it will provide the ideal basis for an excellent float rod conversion. I will probably have traditional high frame black SIC guides fitted with (dark) amulet red wraps and thin silver accent thread; and I will most likely keep the dimensions of a traditional spey rod for the cork fore and aft grips, with a stainless steel reel seat in place of traditional hardwood, similar to the Göran Andersson series by LOOP. In any case, it will be an ideal rod for early Chinook on Lake Ontario, and also for selected West Coast applications. Once the work has been completed on the conversion, I will post 'before' and 'after' shots....
