Off the Water....

Of late, I've taken advantage of the fact that my Audi has a fried ECU module, as I'm presently being chauffeured to work, and have a brilliant excuse for minimzing the amount of time I spend outside the house this weekend. I would imagine that the unprecedented mild weather has sparked runs of fish throughout the Great Lakes, but there is still plenty of time and opportunity for Steelhead fishing. On a related note, I've historically disliked angling in January anyway. The shutter on my Canon is dying, as evidenced by this photo taken around New Years ~ time to put the new one to use. In any event, this space will probably not be updated until my next trip out to a river, perhaps next week.

This time of year, I would rather kick around antique shops and independent furniture studios anyway, there is far more to life than fishing.

  1. You have had such an incredible '06 season. Downtime will only rejuvenate you for the next outing.

You look like someone who has had one too many "Steamwhistles".. or the quest for another. ;)

  2. "there is far more to life than fishing."

A philosophy I've touted from time to time when I didn't have a car;)

  3. Actually that bad photo is more an expression of surprise over the fact that my beaten up little Canon digital camera was still working...time to break out the 7.1MPx

Spring running fish should begin in earnest soon, time to target those massive Lake Ontario fish.

  4. Has it been your experience that the larger lake ontario steelhead start running around now?

I've definitely found the average fish on lake erie tribs has bounced by at least 3 or 4 pounds, but I was thinking this is still the tailout of the fall run.

Haven't been to Lake O tribs of late as the general consensus seems to be small runs.

  5. I fish the North shore rivers, places like Duffins Creek and the Ganaraska River. All of those systems have wild fish, not the typical 'Chambers Creek' stockers found on 18 and the Oak. They are heavy spring runners, March is best after ice out, but that is somewhat nullfied in light of mild weather.
