Huron County..

I fished the Maitland River today for the first time since November, and though the weather was fair, the fishing conditions were unseasonably poor. An early end to Winter coupled with a notable thaw in January likely created ideal conditions for spawning lake-run Rainbows, hence many have returned to the depths of Lake Huron. Nevertheless, the highlight of my day was a fully guided trip with Mike Verhoef, the proprietor of Fly Fitters. We glided for hours over glassy, smooth sections of crystal clear water, where we witnessed a prolific steady hatch of Tan Caddis in the late afternoon. Looks as though spring fishing for Steelhead is quickly drawing to a conclusion.....
