'Change the Batteries'..

Today, I visited a few Western New York Creeks that drain into Lake Ontario, water levels were above average, and in many cases featured only about 3-5" of clarity. My decision to travel there was motivated by two reasons ~ firstly, yesterday marked the opening of Deer "gun season" in NY State, and recent rains have caused many rivers to rise in that same region. Both of the aforementioned factors have considerably thinned crowds on State streams, and today was no exception. The highlight of my day was landing and releasing what looked to have been an 11lb 'Lake Run' Brown Trout hen. I moved it into a shallow section, and readied my camera while the fish rested in a rocky crag of river that acted as a cradle. When I powered on the camera, the lens extended, and I viewed the impressive fish through the LCD screen. I instinctively squeezed the shutter-release button, only to be prompted by a message that simply stated 'Change the Batteries'; before I could make any additional adjustments, the camera lens rectracted and the LCD screen went dark. I gently moved the fish out into the main current and released it, I guessed that it was close to 28", and it was very deep, with buttery-bronze coloured flanks and a surprisingly white underside. Unfortunately, I cannot provide much more detail relating to the day, as the batteries in my laptop are also fading......

For the record, I do not recommend A&P 'Master Choice' Alkaline batteries, they only lasted a single outing.

  2. Too bad about the batteries, Joe. Get Ray-O-Vac NiMH, 15min rechargeables. They are good for days on end, and they really do recharge in 15 minutes. Very affordable for the amount of times you'll recharge.

  4. To clarify, I actually swore off the Cattaraugus, and thus it remains so.

I've had enough of the Maitland for awhile, so I thought I would visit NY for Browns, so there. My winter river (Niagara) should be setting up soon as well.

  5. Hehe, so it should. It's probably already decent. Haven't fished it in a while, myself, which is odd because I love going there. Opportunity and options, I guess ;)There are often so many!
